Community Choice Plaid Mob at Akinz!

Be Local put this month’s Plaid Mob to a community vote and Akinz was chosen as the destination!

What is a Plaid Mob?

From the Be Local website,

Known in cities around the country as a Cash Mob, we’ve fine tuned the idea to fit Northern Colorado. It’s a simple idea. On the third Tuesday of each month people show up at a pre-identified local business with at least $10 cash and mob the business with purchases.

Why “plaid mob” and not “cash mob?” Because Be Local is all about plaid, jump-started by Plaid Friday. Plaid represents the unique, quirky flair of our local community that we love so much.

We will be targeting small independent businesses that give back to the community. It’s really all about community – supporting local businesses owned by people who live in the community, who employ our neighbors, and are active participants in creating a sustainable economy.

So, we’re honored to be the Community Choice! And we’d be honored if you want to participate! The Facebook Event is the best place to get all the details and RSVP, but no RSVP is necessary to show up! Plaid Mobbers also get a stamp that gets you $2 off your first pint at the Forge Publick House (one of my favorite beer-drinking establishments) after mobbing! :)

Here’s the short and sweet of it: For this Plaid Mob, we meet at the Fountain in Old Town Square and bike over to Akinz (432 S. Link Lane). Come with (at least) $10 CASH to spend clothes, accessories, etc. at Akinz. Wearing PLAID is highly encouraged…but not mandatory. Then join us afterwards for celebratory drinks. The Plaid Mob stamp will get you a $2 OFF your first draught beer at The Forge Publick House (232 Walnut St. – in the center of Old Town Fire House Alley)… and $1 off subsequent draught beers (cash only accepted – ATM located on site).

NOTE: All mobsters will be entered to win a FREE I Love It Local re-usable bag!!

Akinz moving to Old Town Fort Collins!

After a lot of contemplation and discussion about what should be Akinz’ next step, we’ve decided to move towards opening a storefront in Old Town Fort Collins. We’ve secretly been scouting out new locations and are hoping to make the move soon. However, since we’ve never had our own physical storefront before, we need a lot of capital upfront to pay deposit, rent, setup for utilities, and expansion of our inventory! So, we’re running a fundraiser on Community Funded. What is Community Funded? Check out the video:

So basically, you guys can give a little or give a lot and help Akinz get to our goal for this fundraiser! Different levels of pledges are rewarded with different types of exclusive product. Give as little as $1 and help send us on our way! We’ll love you long time.

Can’t give any money right now? That’s ok, we still love you. If you could share the fundraiser with any friends that might be interested though, that would be great!

Congratulations Grads!

Congratulations to all those seniors and super-seniors out there who are now ready to move onto “real life”. I’m wondering what all those new grads have on their plate? Any exciting adventures planned?

I do know what one of those new grads is doing. Our part-time employee, Tyler, will be heading across the pond for a couple months of adventures hopping around Europe visiting music festivals, soccer games, and generally enjoying life! We conned him into keeping us updated while he’s having fun so that we can live through him while we’re stuck here working. Stay tuned for his updates over the next couple months!

Seems like everyone is escaping to Europe these days. One of our team riders, Kim Kirch, has been hopping around Europe wakeboarding and making new friends already this summer. You can check out what she’s up to on her Tumblr.

Anyone for Croquet?

I Fly Colorado trucker hat on top of the croquet set.

This past Sunday in Fort Collins, it was a balmy 80 degrees in the sunshine. It had everybody tricked into thinking it was time for summer. We started the day by riding our bikes all over Old Town to hang posters for our party next week. Then our friend Amanda made the discovery of a croquet set sitting at the end of a driveway with a “Take Me” sign, so we decided to head to the park for a proper game of croquet. A day full of brunch, bikes, beer and balls (croquet balls, that is).

Supposed to snow tomorrow!
