That Intern Life

Hi there!

My name is Jodee and I am currently a merchandising intern at Akinz. I am going to be graduating from CSU in May with a bachelor’s degree in Apparel & Merchandising and a minor in Business. Aside from fashion, art is a huge hobby of mine and I am hoping to combine these two hobbies in my future career. I also am very passionate about music and enjoy singing and playing the guitar. I have lived in Colorado all of my life and as a result, absolutely love the mountains and the outdoors. Hiking and playing volleyball are two activities that I really enjoy when I have some free time.

Interning at Akinz has been such a great experience. I have been getting to do a wide variety of activities including merchandising, visual merchandising, social media, and giving input on new design ideas. I would have to say that the visual merchandising aspect has been my favorite, as I have been able to express my artistic and creative side when designing different window displays. I get inspiration online (mainly on Pinterest), write out my ideas, then draw out a final idea for the overall window display.  It is really cool to see these ideas come to life in the windows and I love the fact that everyone that walks by the store gets to view and enjoy what I have created. On a side note, on my first day here as an intern, I learned how to make the pom-poms for beanies…so much fun! I now have a silly new hobby of making pom-poms which has earned me the nickname “pom queen” and made me the designated pom-pom maker here at Akinz for a while.

I can almost always be seen wearing a beanie, which is one reason I love Akinz! They have the best variety of quality, handmade beanies. The Vagabond (the beanie I’m wearing in the picture above) is my favorite which won’t be available until next fall (intern perk!) but you can get a similar current style, the Serendipity beanie right now.  When I am not wearing this beanie, I am probably wearing the Foco Bikes hat shown below that I absolutely love. Another favorite product of mine is the “Go Play Outside” pin, which is such a fashionable  and fun reminder to experience the outdoors. Lastly, one of my favorite shirts here at Akinz is the Ascend Mountains top seen below. This shirt features one of my all-time favorite prints at Akinz!

Thanks for reading a little bit about me, and come say hi some time! 🙂

Yes! You captured why I am moving here…. creative, energetic folks; self starter types; locally owned small businesses; bikes, (tho’ you they say); CSU; music; and all this natural beauty… to go outside and play in. I already have a sign saying, “Play Outside” over my kitchen sink, and an Akinz “Go Play Outside” tee shirt; now I want the pin! Thanks for the inspiration!
